So you ran out of compresses and it’s going to be a few weeks before your beloved Lom Love has more in stock… What to do?!

In lieu of your favorite compresses there is always the option to make them!  Believe me, it’s not as convenient and it’s certainly not as authentic as imported goodies from Thailand, but it can be a fun project and they smell oh so good!  After shopping around town I have a few favorite new places and some memorable encounters!

For an abundance of dried herbs such as Turmeric and Ginger you can count on Mimi at Troung An!  They don’t carry fresh herbs including the extremely important lemongrass but she knew where I could find some and helped me out.  Because Vietnamese grocery stores are more likely to carry fresh lemongrass she even wrote out the translation of my shopping list so I could find what I needed!

Another fun place is Lek’s Asian Market.  Lek is the owner and she was incredibly excited to tell me exactly what I needed for making my herbal balls, as she has been a massage therapist and knows all about them.  She insisted on fresh ingredients and happened to have frozen Kaffir Lime leaves from the tree she conveniently had for sale ;)

After a lot of searching and a little frustration I finally found the thorn in my side that is lemongrass!  Pacific Mercantile Company, right in the heart of downtown, has very reasonably priced goods.  I could have spent a lot of time and money there on things I was not necessarily looking to buy.

I highly recommend checking these places out for food, medicated liniments and of course your compress ingredients!

Last night marked the final night of our 320 hr Western program!!!  This is an exciting time for those moving onto the Thai Yoga Massage levels 1, 2 and 3 of the 600 hr program.  Because we offer stand alone courses, 12 more students are able to join in the Level  1 Thai Yoga Massage course that begins tonight!

In this stand alone course students will begin to use the combination of acupressure techniques along the meridian lines (Sen Sib), reflexology of the hands and feet, along with progressive, assisted, passive stretching techniques, essentially all that is Thai Yoga Massage. This course includes 36 In-Class hours that will enable each person to give a 120-150 minute Thai Massage sessions.  Along with learning an organized and detailed sequence, the students will learn the history and roots of Traditional Thai Massage, Thai energy lines, ergonomics for the therapist, and also focus on grounding, centering, and breathing techniques. The students are going to learn the oceanic rhythm and dance-like flow that is synonymous with this healing art. Level 1 is a perfect addition and a new layer of awareness to bring to a current massage, yoga, acupuncture, or energy work practice.

Our Thai Yoga Massage classes can be taken as part of the 600-Hour CMT program, or they can be taken separately as Continuing Education. This is fabulous news because if you just want to take an Intro to Thai massage class, Thai for the Table, or Levels 1 – 3, then you can take those separately from the other programs.

Why are Yogis flocking to learn Thai Yoga Massage?

Simply put the name gives it away.  However, there is more to it than that.  Not only does Thai Yoga Massage use some of the same postures found in Yoga (Pigeon, Figure 4, and Frog) but it also incorporates breath and facilitates body awareness.  This ‘Lazy Man’s Yoga’ is beneficial for all body types  and like a yoga practice is able open and transform the body, mind, and spirit allowing for relaxation and invigoration.

Start loving what you do!  Your 600 hr CMT journey starts on Saturday, July 16th!
